Like so many of the other landmarks on Santa
Catalina Island, The Avalon Pleasure Pier has its
own interesting history. It has burned and been rebuilt
several times in its long life. Traditionally painted a
bright teal green, it extends out in the harbor from
Catalina Avenue. It's where Marlin fishermen weigh
their catch, always drawing a crowd. Island visitors
depart from the Pier for harbor and the undersea
tours. On a warm summer evening you can take a
ride on a lighted speed boat and catch a rare glimpse
of flying fish.
